A picture of good health, balance, flavour and length. It bristles with freshness, with power, with authority. The fruit - blueberry and blackberry, splashed with earth and ground coffee - is soft, but the tannin is ropey and firm, like arms around a bountiful harvest. A very long life is in store.
This 2014 Old Block has a sturdy feel, delivering a well-structured and full-bodied Barossa shiraz. The aromas run the gamut from red to dark fruits. Black stones, earthy notes, dried flowers and cedary wood, too. The palate has great depth, and the tannins are well-fitted to the fruit. There’s potential to come. Best from 2022. Screw cap.
Vintage 2014 in Barossa old vine Shiraz produced subtle and elegant wines; particularly in contrast to the boisterous 2013 Vintage. The 2014 Old Block Shiraz has all the hallmarks we expect from this wine: full bodied textural mouthfeel, immaculate oak and fruit flavour integration and a supple persistent finish. The acid and tannin balance that underpins the wine will stand it in good stead to cellar for quite some time.
