The Gaudron family - fourth generation Filles Gaudron is currently at the helm - have been making wine in Vernou since about 1890, farming a 27-hectare vineyard, two-thirds of it with an average age of 30 years. Part of the team is anthony Carfantan - Loire Valley born and bred, and has made it his mission to extend the reach of the family vineyard into international distribution and gained listings in Michelin starred acclaimed restaurants over the world.
The cellars date back to the 13th century, with 1km of galleries burrowed deep into the rock. And it's here where a few of the Gaudron wines spend several months in oak to acquire more complexity and character.
Among these new wines there is a sparkling brut vintage from 2009 which offers a richer, more complex and lanoline-centred style after spending extended time on the lees, a Vouvray Sec and Demi Sec made using a more rigorous grape selection, and a sweet wine from 1993 - A Vouvray moelleux which showcases the great ageability of the style.
